A New Perspective May be Closer than You Think

This morning I was in my office early and was the first to arrive. I turned on just a few lights in adjacent hallways and suddenly found myself maneuvering down a dark path towards the back office, the light switch inconveniently located several feet behind. Reaching my destination, I fumbled to hang my coat and drop of some belongings. Mission accomplished, I headed out into the hall expecting to fumble my way back through the dark.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hall wasn’t dark at all. Not from this new vantage point. Somehow the simple change in perspective of walking towards the light extending from the perpendicular hall rather than away made all the difference.

I was struck with this thought: How often in our lives or work does a subtle change in perspective illuminate a whole new path? How many times, in our darkest moments are we are on the precipice of a new idea, just around the bend from the great solution, our next big vision?

Next time you feel like you are up against a wall, backed into a corner, at the end of your rope or totally in the dark, shift your focus away from the challenge and see where the new perspective takes you. You may really enjoy the view!
