Life Sure is Funny Sometimes!
Life sure is funny sometimes! Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been putting a lot of thought into the Keys to Success for an interview. You can see the video I did on the subject on my blog here: 4 Keys to Success (And, yes, the play button is squarely over my nose – I’ve gotten a lot of comic relief from my stills on Youtube!)
One of the 4 keys that I talk about is Tenacity. You must be unstoppable. In the video I talked about life throwing you curve balls, relationships throwing you curve balls. What I didn’t say was that your computer can throw you curve balls. And, based on my experience since last Friday, I should have! It got a nasty virus. My computer has been down for the count since that evening. I’m still praying that it comes back to me in one piece!
While I had my initial moment of panic, since then I have been driven and unstoppable! These challenges often inspire us to move outside of our comfort zones. I have had to ask for help, create work-arounds and redefine my expectations for productivity. With the help of a computer friend I was able to retrieve my calendar so that I knew which clients I was meeting with when. And I think I’ve been able to save all of my data.
I’m limping along on my laptop with two big speaking events coming up over the next week and life is still good because I choose to make it so!
A computer problem certainly is not the worst challenge to have but it can cause some major headaches. The moral of the story, though, is that life does bring all of us challenges both big and small and it is up to us to choose our response.
Where are you facing unforeseen challenges right now? What response will you choose? Will you use this time as an opportunity to roll over and give up or will you rise to the occasion with new found creativity, focus and drive?
By the way, here are a couple of tools I would highly recommend after my little mishap this weekend.
Mozy: http://tinyurl.com/y8nwxxw Automatically backs up your hard drive to a secure server every night!
Sandbox: http://www.sandboxie.com/ REALLY wish I had known about this! Surrounds any downloads and allows you to scan for viruses before they have any chance to damage your computer!
